Finding a Qualified Installer
Many of you will already know a plumber or heating engineer through a 'friend of a friend'. The most important thing to ask is 'Are they Gas Safe registered?'
As of 1st April 2009, the Corgi gas registration scheme was replaced by the Gas Safe Register. Any person carrying out work on gas appliances in Great Britain needs to be on the Gas Safe Register by law. If you are having work carried out on a gas appliance, you should ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe Register ID card.
Gas Safe Register
Gas Safe Register website allows you to search for local registered businesses and installers either by typing in your address, postcode or name of the installer or company if you know this. The website shows you the names of any engineers working for registered businesses and specifically which gas appliances individuals are qualified to work on. Alternatively you can ring Gas Safe Register directly on 0800 408 5500 to check local installers and businesses.
