As the purchaser and ultimate end user of your gas boiler, it is important that you have an appreciation and understanding of the factors involved when selecting one that is suitable for your home and family needs.

Which type of boiler is best for me?

There are 3 gas boiler types available; Combination, System and Open Vented. But which one should you choose and why? This depends on many factors such as;

  • Which central heating system you currently have
  • How many people live in the house
  • Size of house/number of bathrooms/number of radiators
  • How much you want to pay
  • The number of hot water outlets in your house

You can understand which type is best for you by visiting the Buying a Boiler section of this website.

Why should I be interested in energy efficiency?

You will need to choose a new, high efficiency condensing gas boiler (as they have now been made compulsory by the Building Regulations). Effectively, this means that the boiler has low emissions levels and is very energy efficient - they burn less gas for the same amount of heating, leading to lower fuel bills and less carbon dioxide emitted by the boiler into the atmosphere. You could save up to £235/year by switching to the latest high efficiency Dimplex gas boiler. (EST). Visit Energy Saving Trust for more information

Where can I find an installer?

Many of you will already know a plumber or heating engineer through a 'friend of a friend'. The most important thing to ask is 'Are they Gas Safe registered?'

As of 1st April 2009, the Corgi gas registration scheme was replaced by the Gas Safe Register. Any person carrying out work on gas appliances in Great Britain needs to be on the Gas Safe Register by law. If you are having work carried out on a gas appliance, you should ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe Register ID card.

Gas Safe Register website allows you to search for local registered businesses and traders either by typing in your address or you can type in the name of the trader or company if you know this. The website shows you the names of any engineers working for registered businesses and specifically which gas appliances individuals are qualified to work on. Alternatively you can ring Gas Safe Register directly on 0800 408 5500 to check local traders and businesses. You can visit Gas Safe website which has more than 65,000 registered businesses  across the UK. Dimplex Gas Boilers are also developing a list of installers that have previous experience of fitting a Dimplex Gas Boiler and are happy to pass installer details on to you - call Glen Dimplex Boilers on 0844 371 1111 for the Installer Hotline.

Do I need to have my boiler serviced?

Your boiler must be serviced annually by a Gas Safe regsitered engineer to keep it in 'tip top' condition. More importantly, your annual service will validate your warranty and therefore must be carried out.

Service and support are important parts of your boiler purchase.
